I hope everyone had a good Father’s Day weekend and welcome back to the Tale of 2 Halfs. Today we began week number three of Chicago Marathon training. We are still early on but overall, we have had some good runs and training has been consistent for the both of us.
We’re experiencing a bit of a heat wave so running hasn’t been overly pleasant, but I’d almost rather the heat than a blizzard.
Week two already brought with it some challenges as I was traveling for work (again) and I had to find a time to run along with finding a new, safe area to knock out my miles. In addition, early in the week I came down with some random bug and although I completed my miles, my training times are not where I would like them, far from it in fact. The final challenge I faced this week was a busy family schedule which resulted in me having to do my 11 mile long run on the treadmill around 9 p.m. at night. That was a very tough run! Here’s a look at my week:
Monday: 5 Miles
Tuesday: 6 Miles
Wednesday: 2 mile warm-up; 3 x 1200 m @ 5k pace with 3-4 min rest between; 2 x 400 @ 5k pace; 1 mile cool-down. (6 miles)
Thursday: 7 Miles
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 11 Mile Long Run
Sunday: 5 Miles
Weekly Total = 40 Miles
For the most part due to work schedules, I’ve been doing all of my runs indoors. This week my mom is in town visiting so I’ve been able to get outside. Although the heat for my long run on Sunday was miserable. I knew right away that it was going to be rough, but it was a good mental strength test for sure.
Monday: 3 Miles
Tuesday: 4 Miles
Wednesday: 2 Miles WU, 2x1200m, 1x400m, 1 Mile CD for 5.5 Miles total
Thursday: 5 Miles
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 4 Miles
Sunday: 9 Miles
Weekly Total = 30.5 Miles
If you’re training for a fall race, we hope you had a great week and we look forward to sharing our journey with you again next week.
