Good morning and Happy 4th of July! Today is an exciting day as we begin the second month of training for the Chicago Marathon. We thought that we would take a deeper look at our first month in whole, not just the last week.
Overall, I’m very pleased with how my first month went. There were some struggles along the way, but my conditioning is improving daily and, slowly my speed is returning to my expectations. One thing I am the most proud of is that I missed no scheduled runs, and didn’t short any runs either. This is a major accomplishment for me given my work schedule and life in general; in fact during my previous seven marathons, I never made it a month without missing runs. Here’s a look at my first month:
Total Distance: 165 Miles
Ave. Daily Mileage: 5.9 Miles
Ave. Weekly Mileage: 41.2 Miles
Calories Burned: 16,433
Overall I can’t complain about the first month. Aside from this past week I’ve adjusted pretty well to the increased mileage. For whatever reason this past week was a little rough, and my legs have protested quite a bit. I’ve only missed one run since training officially started. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel going back up to six days a week from 5 but I’m planning on keeping things the way they are for now, and keeping Mondays as a flexible day if need be. July is going to present a few challenges with a vacation coming up and some travel days that are probably going to force some scheduling changes.
Total Distance: 118 Miles
Ave. Daily Mileage: 4.9 Miles
Ave. Weekly Mileage: 29.6 Miles
Calories Burned: 14,051
